Who do we sponsor, either officially, unofficially, secretly, brazenly, or just for the fun of it? Primarily any organization, author, or interestingly shaped rock formation that helps to promote the causes of literary progress and reading.
Our primary favorite is the illustrious Office of Letters and Light, responsible for several of the greatest writing events around. They're best known for their annual writing competition National Novel Writing Month in November. 50,000 words. 30 days. 16 bajillion participants (an approximate estimate). Definitely worth checking out. November not a good time for you? They've just opened up summer sessions over at Camp NaNoWriMo in July and August. Same setup as November in terms of word count and deadlines. Just with tents and marshmallows. Better with scripts? Try their ScriptFrenzy in April. 100 pages in 30 days. It may sound easier than a novel, but trust me, it's just as tricky. And just as fun. Although not a contributor (yet), we still enjoy reading the publishings of Turtleduck Press. A group of writers, with their powers combined form Captain Planet a step up from pure self-published books. We're also keeping an eye out on recently started independent press Roundabout Press which is run by Burnt Twig Productions. Their plans for a documentary on The Write Life (No relation to our Write Life in any way shape or form) are intriguing. We also run a local (Fairfield County, CT, USA, Earth) writing group with monthly events: FCWG. It is our hope to expand to other communities in the future with Literary Liasons. If you are interested in helping us with that endeavor, contact Charles Muir. |
